Konata's Song For Her Dad?

The song here has the slightly dubious title of I'm Glad You're A Lolicon, which I gather is a term for someone who likes the younger ladies perhaps a little too much to be entirely healthy. In the anime series Lucky Star, Konata had long realised that her dad was one such, though in practice he seemed to be harmless enough.

It seems to be not all that uncommon in Japan, possibly caused by all the 'cutesy' outfits worn in and out of school. Anyway, it's all well beyond me, so let's just enjoy fairy Lapis and her dancers (Mayu and a shorter-haired Miku variant) performing the song of that title in a brand new video.

There are no English words provided – and for all I know that might be just as well, as I might not have felt comfortable posting this otherwise, depending what the lyrics mean (and no, I don't wish to know, so don't anyone tell me!) This is just a musical and visual feast, and I rather like it on that basis. Besides anything else, it is rare to encounter those wonderful Saboten eyes on Mayu and Lapis together – which, if I'm being brutally honest with myself, was the final straw that made me want to share this here. Predictable, I know...

Their colourful outfits, both at the start and after the first change, are somewhat reminiscent of the psychedelia-inspired fashions of the 'sixties that one could find in places like Carnaby Street and Camden indoor market. Although they might be thought almost garish, they do actually work very well in these settings and with this quite tuneful song...

Ah, It's A Wonderful Cat Life

This slightly jazzy song is quite popular with Vocaloid audiences, and it works particularly well as a duet. Here we have the male Vocaloid known simply as 'VY2' leading the singing, with the delightful Mayu coming in a minute or so into the song.

It's quite good, but alas there are no English words provided, so best to treat it as just a pleasant musical diversion – it works well that way...

We are POP CANDY

Thinking about Mayu a little earlier this evening, I had been pondering the fact that we usually encounter only the standard model of her, with the same outfit and everything else. Most other Vocaloid characters are known for having different designs, outfits and other variations (Lapis being another exception).

So I was now on a mission to discover any other Mayu models 'out there' – and I found a couple!

Even better, here are all three together: the standard Windows 100% magazine model (Saboten), the Tda Append model (by princessayw), and a School model (by creinie). From watching the three models together, particularly their hair, I suspect that the Saboten model hadn't had the physics patch applied when this was produced – but it's still good, if not quite as natural-looking as the others.

There are no English words provided, but I suspect most viewers will be too occupied with the delightful visuals to be overly concerned about that...

A Lie And A Stuffed Animal

Now that's certainly an unusual title for this song by no less than Dixie Flatline, but when one realises that it features Mayu and her toy Usano Mimi – who puts in a brief character appearance early on – it becomes a little clearer.

It might have been clearer still, as there are subtitles – but they are in Italian(!)

It's still definitely a delight to watch, despite that, with a really good Mayu model (by one k2kyano, with whom I am not familiar) and excellent motion, very feminine and it seems so right for Mayu...

Te Yu Te

This simple song is here performed by Mayu, again using the excellent Saboten model, but on this occasion rendered in a three-dimensional style that is truly exceptional.

With really good natural motion and sensible camera-work, this is one of those rare gems that make one really sit up and take notice. It seems a pity it lasts only 85 seconds...

Mr. Deja Vu

Here's Mayu with a rather lively number titled Mr. Deja Vu, written by someone known simply as '164', in what I think has to be one of the most expressive motions I have yet encountered within the Vocaloid video scene. Poor ol' Usano Mimi gets puts through it rather a lot, taking turns in both the washing machine and the microwave oven; but at least Mayu's axe isn't deployed. Not today...

I recognised the Mayu model straight away as Saboten's: the beautiful eyes give the game away, and the model is used to very good effect in this song. Indeed, it's so compelling in places that it is easy to forget to follow the English subtitles, so I anticipate at least two viewings of this for many people, once for the visuals and again for the English words...

Duet – PonPonPon

With just a month and a half to go before Galaco is scheduled to be deactivated, I thought it might be nice to feature her here again, this time in a duet with Mayu.

So we have two lovely ladies, two good voices which, though markedly different (most obvious when they do short solo parts, one after the other) and not handled quite as well as they might have been in this video, go very well together.

I hadn't encountered this particular Mayu model before: although it's very good, I think I personally prefer the Saboten that we saw in another duest a couple of months ago (Magnet, with SeeU). Her dress tend to hang lower, though, which is definite plus point. The stage is rather basic, but as a counter to that, the glitter effects work quite well.

Anyway, this is PonPonPon, without English words – but there aren't more than a handful of actual words, repeated a number of times, so it doesn't really matter. High Definition is available, and recommended if your system and feed can cope...

Love Logic

A Mayu day wouldn't be complete without Daniwell's oh-so-cute Love Logic, so I make no apologies for re-posting it today!

Comments at the YouTube page range from (in précised summary form) 'Mayu is cute' via 'the song is cute' to 'Usano Mimi couldn't be any cuter'. I think we get the message...

Your Love Will Surely Skyrocket

Sung by GUMI, but mimed and enacted by Mayu in a really nice video, this is Your Love Will Surely Skyrocket.

This is the only Mayu video I am showcasing today that includes the infamous axe, which thankfully ends up being thrown away rather quickly...

More Mayu

This is called Tsukema Tsukeru, and no I don't know what it means(!) Again I present this as a musical and visual feast, so the lack of English words isn't so important on this occasion, though you can read them here. It seems to be about big, beautiful eyes and false eyelashes.

It's not quite up to the visual quality of the two earlier videos, but is certainly good enough...

Monday is Mayu Day

I have decided to post a few (probably three or four in total) Mayu videos, to brighten up the start of the week – which, weather-wise, is somewhat dull here.

This is Paradise: no English words, but it's a good production, again with the delightful Saboten model of Mayu, along with some nice effects, and is quite jolly...

Double Lariat – by Mayu

Now, strictly speaking, Double Lariat is firmly and properly Luka's song and no-one else's; but this is a very nice effort using Mayu – though the low notes are slightly odd.

Anyway, I thought it worked better than I was expecting when I stumbled across this. It also has the lovely Saboten model of Mayu, so is worth showcasing here for that reason alone(!)

It is set on what I'd consider a non-typical stage for a song of this nature, but well suited to Mayu; and for a change Usano Mimi ("Bunny Ears") gets to join in the action as well...

Eden by Mayu

This is an unusual song, and again it does not include English lyrics, but once more is interesting enough for me to include in today's short run of new-to-the-'blog Mayu items. It was originally performed by Miku, but suit's Mayu's voice style rather well, so this 'cover' is a good idea.

It's one of those worth playing through once – but perhaps not quite compelling enough to warrant a second play, at least not for everyone (it's growing on me). Some will, some won't, I suspect; but this is the time for the first go...

Mayu's Eyes

I don't know what this song is called except in Japanese characters, nor do I have English words for it, but it is quite captivating – especially if one also watches Mayu's eyes closely. That is easy as there are several lengthy close-up shots of her face. Note too the pulsing hat, which is a new one on me.

It was all written and produced by one 'Konig', including playing the Fender Stratocaster, as stated the credits at the end (much of it in English). The motion makes a change from the norm as the performer really just stands on the spot rather than the usual dancing around we get in these productions.

Also the camerawork isn't the often dizzying perpetual moving and switching style, and I for one generally prefer this, though I can understand why it is done for other works. Overall it's a good outing for Mayu, whose voice seems to suit the mood of this song – whatever it is...

Love and Joy

This is a very good Mayu version of Love and Joy. There are no English words provided, sadly, but Mayu is just so nice in this, and her voice has been very well tuned with good pitch bends and all the rest of it, that it is actually quite heartwarming to watch even without knowing what the words mean.

The lovely Saboten Mayu model is, on this occasion, a slightly outdated one: an improved 'patched' version has been available for a while. It's good enough, though, and once again shows how graceful and feminine Mayu can be, as we have seen a couple of times recently.

The only significant thing wrong with this is that her mouth doesn't move, which is a little odd but I suppose isn't overwhelmingly important, though I have no idea why it wasn't done on this occasion...

Magnet – A Different Version

I've never seen this dance for the excellent duet song Magnet before, and here (for a change) we have SeeU and Mayu (yes, my supposed bride!) doing the honours. Sensibly, they have left enough room between them to avoid hair collisions during spins(!)

The models are by Mamama and Saboten, so are of high quality in general, though rendered here slightly below their top quality capability, which is a bit of a shame. Also, the Mamama SeeU is known to have a few limitations, such as a restricted range of facial expressions.

Mayu is particularly graceful in this, and I felt unusually tender towards her (as much as one can for someone who doesn't actually exist) while watching this. The stonework stage also adds to the atmosphere of this video, which is best viewed in High Definition if your system is up to doing that...

Bridal Wine

Well, it has the same name as my vocaloid 'bride' – Mayu. As it happens, Mayu is the Mayan word for the Milky Way galaxy, but in this instance it's in a bottle from Chile...

It's all right, but not quite to my personal taste. There's a slight hint of the Lambrusco about it – not too intrusive, but it does detract from it, I find. It goes all right with strong flavours (I had peppercorn sauce beef steak) when one doesn't notice. Then again, perhaps I'm becoming too fussy in mt old age!

Not that I dare complain for fear of becoming her latest 'hatchet job', as we are reminded of the lady's tendency at around 14-15 seconds into the short demo video of a GUMI song Ama no Jaku (Heaven's Weakness)...

Love Logic, by Mayu

Another Daniwell song (you'll recognise some similarity to his Nekomimi Switch) performed by my 'bride' (ahem!) Mayu. There are English subtitles, and I suspect they reflect quite well the sorts of feelings that ordinary folk (especially teenagers starting out in that game) experience.

It's all rather cute actually, with Usano Mimi (Bunny Ears) well in evidence too; and despite the relatively simple animation and graphical quality in the video it actually works very well. Usano Mimi is the only cuddly toy I know with a Neumann U87 – or is it a TLM103? – microphone sticking out the top of his head: that's certainly a first!

Oh, and the infamous Mayu axe is absent on this occasion, so all is safe...

Meet the Niece

I think that website I accessed recently, and mentioned in my previous post, got it wrong. However cute Mayu may be, I can't even contemplate marrying someone like that. Even putting the axe aside (which sounds like a good idea on principle!) there's just too much of a mismatch.

No, I think I'd have to be just a distant uncle, if I had to be anything; and perhaps this (very appealing) video of Love Logic shows why, both in the title and via the content...

Meet the Wife

Well, after the site I linked to a few days ago told me I'd be marrying the vocaloid Mayu, I thought it prudent to check out the lady first, especially with her reputed latent psychotic tendencies.

Here we get an idea of this rather cute lady, with her almost constant companion (a soft toy) and a nice voice, actually – though on this occasion she's miming to Gumi. All goes well at first, but I'm not entirely sure about her choice of accessory two thirds of the way through...

At least her One More Time, which is very good I think, concentrates more on the softer side of Mayu, including her bunny-like soft toy, who is named Usano Mimi ("bunny ears"), by the way...
