My former employer (of some ten or more years ago) ASDA has announced the creation of some 5,000 new jobs this year. They're always doing this kind of thing, year after year; and it is a mark of their confidence that they are still able and willing to open new shops and depots, and re-fit existing stores, even at this time of economic difficulty.

The first meeting of Medway Council in 2012 was a relatively productive and largely orderly affair, although with a larger-than-usual "Public Sector Unionised" occupancy of the public gallery it was obviously going to be noisy at times – and that proved true, though they were far from being the worst we have had, to their (admittedly small) credit.

I have now been on Twitter for a little over a year; and sometimes for any of a number of reasons I find myself in a Twitter exchange with either someone I already know to be, or what turns out to be, a Lefty.

I recognise him from Big Barn Farm (I have never seen Come Dine With Me, for which he is more famous) and he did his best in this new endeavour.

Another year has passed, and it's again time to publish my graphs of all the year's national "voting intention" polls – this time with the daily (YouGov, top graph) polling figures separated from those of the less frequent surveys conducted by the various other pollsters (lower graph).

That's what the trainee locomotives say in Chuggington. Yes, they talk, and much more besides! Each has a distinct personality.

It is a very well devised, designed and produced series, with the engines (known as "chuggers") even based on real locos, such as Brewster being a Deltic, albeit with only one cab, so perhaps a "Deltic lite". Olwin is a Gresley A4 Pacific steamer, and so on.
