Suddenly It's Folk Song

Actually, that was the title of a track on the Peter Sellers album of half a century ago, "The Best of Sellers".

This, though, is Vaughan Williams's arrangement of some English folk songs, in a three part non-vocal suite. I found it at Denverstrope today, so I tip my hat to him for this.

Vaughan Williams arranged some traditional songs as vocals as well: I recorded one, "Turtle Dove", performed by the Surrey Constabulary Male Voice Choir (I kid you not) under their leader, Harry Porter, at the School for the Blind in Leatherhead many years ago, along with Opportunity Knocks winner (for the week) Josie Hinchy (or was it Hinchey?) on my trusty Stellavox portable recorder.

Anyway, enough of this reminiscing! Here's the music, along with a painted scene for each part. I like all three parts, though the last is my favourite of the suite...

  1. Beautiful. Love the pictures you have chosen. A most artistic creation, I really enjoyed it.

It's great when bloggers do things like this, of music and art they love.

  2. Well, I didn't produce this: it was spotted by Denverthen, as I mentioned, and I just copied it(!)
