I see that The Guardian has found someone from Sweden to criticise the Conservatives' plan to bring the Swedish schools system to England. I am no expert in this field so shall not comment on the article.
However, it is worth noting who the author of their piece is: Mona Sahlin, leader of the Swedish Social Democratic Party. What a surprise! Oh, and this lady has had issues regarding expenses and paying fines in recent years, though the criminal charges against her were eventually dropped. There is quite a list of such issues altogether.
It all makes it rather difficult to trust the Guardian article (not that I and many others have much trust in that publication anyway) when one knows the author's background, which presumably their editorial staff knew as well. If they did, then they must take the flak for accepting/commissioning the piece; and if not, then they are clearly incompetent.
It's not like, with the availability of Google, people can't dig this up, is it?
ReplyDeleteYou could get away with that in the old hard-copy times, because, frankly, who'd remember to look her up in the library or on the Amstrad when you got home?
Reading the dear old Grauniad on the web, though, all the details are a mouse click away...
They can, but how many will bother? I have effectively saved them that minimal effort; though some might be sufficiently intrigued to at least follow the links I provided, and possibly go further.
ReplyDeleteI occasionally like to think of my job as sometimes being a catalyst for others' action ;-)
